SUBSTANCE: object of the present invention is to provide an automatic cash register machine and a method for controlling it, the machine being provided with a medium storage unit that can enhance the convenience of a worker during maintenance by allowing the door of the medium storage unit to be opened even if the door is locked with a key. To achieve this goal, an automatic cash register machine comprises: a door having a locking portion for opening and closing a medium storage space in which the medium is stored; a first sliding member disposed in a locked position or an open position by means of a locking or opening operation of the locking portion; a second slide configured to lock the door by being gripped by the first slide when the first slide is in the locked position; a drive unit configured to move the second slide between a first door locking position and a second door unlocking position when the first slide is in the locked position; and a control unit configured to control the operation of the drive unit.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of a cash register structure and a way of operating it.
