FIELD: plasma physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of plasma physics, gas discharge, high-current electronics, etc. and can be used to generate magnetoactive low-temperature plasma in large volumes, including for research activities. The method includes the following steps: a solid flat hot cathode and a flat mesh anode are placed inside the volume of the vacuum chamber along its axis, a rarefied gas gap between the hot cathode and the anode is provided, an axial quasi-constant strong magnetic field is formed in the vacuum chamber by means of an external solenoid, voltage sufficient for gas discharge ignition is supplied to the above electrodes in the form of a package of rectangular pulses, during the "zero" phases of which the continuity of the current in the gas-discharge gap is ensured, and the current ripples in the gas-discharge gap arising when voltage pulses are applied to the electrodes are smoothed out. A stabilized quasi-constant current is formed in the external solenoid, and the voltage is applied to the electrodes in the form of a packet of rectangular pulses with varying durations of "zero" and positive phases relative to each other.
EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the stability of the parameters of the formed plasma by improving the method for stabilizing the gas discharge current and the current of the field-forming solenoid.
