FIELD: measuring devices.

SUBSTANCE: invention is used for remote determination of the microwave radiation characteristics of the scattering ground covers, including snow, in natural conditions. The intensities of thermal radiation of the studied natural covers with an additional standard in the form of a black body installed perpendicular to the mirror direction and after its removal from the field of view of the antenna are sequentially measured. Then, the intensities of thermal radiation of the additional standard and the atmosphere in the mirror direction are sequentially measured. The mirror reflection coefficient of the studied natural cover is determined by a given mathematical expression. The additional standard has the thermodynamic temperature equal to the bottom layer of the atmosphere and the angular dimensions equal to the main lobe of the receiving antenna radiation pattern.

EFFECT: expansion of functional capabilities of the method, which is expressed in providing measurement of another radiative value of the scattering covers - the mirror reflection coefficient.
