FIELD: web movement system.
SUBSTANCE: present invention generally relates to a system and method for moving a web of material. The web movement system contains an accumulator or storage device that accumulates the amount of material as the material is fed downstream. At least one guide roller within the storage device is connected to a driving device such as a motor. The system also contains at least one tension measuring device. The drive device accelerates or decelerates the guide roller based on information received from the tension measuring device. In one embodiment, the system also includes an electronic speed switching configuration between the unwinding roll of material and the in-line guide roller for better synchronization and further minimizing pulling jerks. Electronic speed switching may include a diameter calculator for a roll of material being unwound based on the speed feedback of the driven idler roller.
EFFECT: web movement system is particularly well suited for maintaining web tension within specified values during time delays in the process, such as during splicing operations.
