METHOD FOR RADAR DETERMINATION OF THE CURRENT VELOCITY VECTOR Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC G01C1/00

Abstract RU 2747963 C1

FIELD: radiolocation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radiolocation of the sea surface and can be used to determine the velocity of surface currents. The problem of determining the current velocity is one of the most urgent problems in modern radio oceanography. Its solution, in particular, will improve the control of the navigation situation in the areas of seaports and oil production platforms. The essence of the invention consists in the fact that the depth is preliminarily determined for a given investigated section of the sea surface and then this section is probed with microwave radio waves in two directions at the given azimuthal angles α1 and α2. Sounding is carried out in one of two options: either using one radar with a rotating antenna, or using two spaced apart radars that do not lie on the same straight line with the site. The reflected signal is received in each of these two directions. Two such soundings are carried out sequentially, and for each of these two directions, two sea surface profiles are reconstructed, from which, by cross-spectral analysis and taking into account the depth data, the phase velocities of surface waves are determined for each of the directions C1 and C2, respectively, according to which the projections of the current velocity are calculated and the current velocity vector is determined.

EFFECT: increased accuracy and efficiency (reduced time for measuring the velocity of the current).
