FIELD: ceramics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for production of ceramics, abrasive tools, high-temperature heating elements, reducing agents in manufacture of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The method of production of silicon carbide by reducing a charge material from quartz sand with oil coke in a resistance furnace includes loading the charge material onto the furnace hearth, forming a core from oil coke above the layer of charge material, loading the charge material from the sides of the core and above the core, melting silicon carbide. Additional cores are formed in height and the charge material is loaded while the furnace is loaded. The distance between the cores and the layer of charge material between the cores is 1.1 to 2.2 of the core thickness.
EFFECT: invention allows using the heat of the electricity supplied to the furnace more completely, producing only silicon carbide without producing intermediate products leading to increased productivity of the furnace.
