FIELD: electrothermics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrothermics, chemical engineering, deep processing of coal-fired power coals and can be used in producing silicon carbide (SiC) for use in reducing processes when used in metallurgical industry for steel production. To obtain silicon carbide, charge materials are used, consisting of screenings of quartzite with fraction of 5–20 mm and rock coal with fraction of 10–30 mm, with the following ratio of components, wt%: screening of quartzite 43.7–46; coal-fired power coal 54–56.3. Process of silicone carbide melting is performed in electric furnace with vertical shaft with continuous loading of charge and with periodic unloading of silicon carbide via unloading channels.
EFFECT: technical result consists in reducing the consumption of silica-containing materials in silicon carbide reduction melting with content of SiC in the obtained product of not less than 88 wt%.
