FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of obtaining inorganic functional materials, namely to a method for producing nanocrystalline cubic molybdenum carbide, which can be used as a catalytic material in reactions for producing hydrogen. The method includes using a compressed mixture of powders of molybdenum-containing and carbon-containing components, evacuating the reactor chamber, generating a plasma jet to sublimate the initial components, spraying and quenching the resulting product in the reactor chamber. The method is characterized in that after evacuation, the reactor chamber is filled with nitrogen at room temperature to a pressure of 2⋅105 Pa, then at a charging voltage of 2.5 kV of a capacitor bank with a capacity of 6 mF molybdenum and carbon-containing electric discharge plasma is generated using a coaxial magnetoplasma accelerator with a graphite barrel and a composite central electrode, including a steel shank and a tip with an electrically fusible bridge made of a compressed mixture of molybdenum and carbon black in an atomic ratio of Mo:C from 0.70:0.30 to 0.50:0.50, placed between the graphite barrel and the graphite tip.
EFFECT: invention allows obtaining nanocrystalline cubic molybdenum carbide.
