FIELD: current collection.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the quality control of the interaction of the contact wire and current collectors of electric rolling stock. The method for spectral determination of the degree of danger of current collection failure consists in receiving radiation from arc, spark, or other discharge or thermal processes, including overload sparks that occur during current collection failures. A radiation spectrum containing the spectral lines of the substance of the contact wire material is obtained, with the measurement of intensity I* of the spectral line of the substance. Then, the obtained intensity I* of the spectral line of the substance is compared with several pre-defined thresholds Ij, where j is the level of danger of failure, taking the values 0, 1, …, n. If Ij≤I*<Ij+1, then a decision is made about the level of danger j.
EFFECT: expanding the possibilities of diagnosing current collection failures, increasing its efficiency, credibility and reliability.
