METHOD FOR DETECTING OIL FILMS ON THE WATER SURFACE Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC G01S13/88 G01S7/41

Abstract RU 2751177 C1

FIELD: radiolocation.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to the field of radiolocation, it can be used to monitor the water surface of water areas in order to detect oil films. The object of the invention is to develop a method for detecting oil films on the water surface by radar, which provides greater performance of searching for petroleum products in comparison with known methods. The water surface is surveyed when the first vessel is moving using a circular-view radar. The reflected echo signals are received. Their amplitudes are recalculated into the specific effective scattering area for each spatial resolution element, and compared with the threshold value of the specific effective scattering area for detecting oil films on the water surface. In addition, a second vessel is used with a passive radar reflector installed with the possibility of re-reflecting the radio pulses coming to it towards the radar. The ship distance between the first and second vessels is calculated. The first and second vessels move in parallel courses at a ship distance from each other at the same speed. The amplitudes of the echo signals received by the radar are accumulated on the first vessel and converted into the values of the specific effective scattering area for the spatial resolution element, containing a passive radar reflector.

EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the range of detection of oil films on the water surface, while ensuring the possibility of simultaneous movement of the radar and the passive radar reflector in the space.
