FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining the water content in a crude oil assay including weighing the crude oil assay. The assay is placed in a heat-insulated vessel, a predetermined amount of heat is supplied thereto or removed therefrom resulting in the temperature of the assay changing, the initial and final temperatures of the assay are measured at the onset of equilibrium thermal conditions, and by the determined amount of heat, the values of the initial and final temperatures of the assay, weight of the assay, the determined heat capacity of the heat-insulated vessel, known specific heat capacities of water and oil, the mass fraction of water is determined by the formula (1) and then, if necessary, by the given densities of water and oil, based on the obtained mass fraction of water, the volume fraction of water is determined:
where Q is the supplied or removed amount of heat, m is the mass of the assay, co is the specific heat capacity of oil, cw is the specific heat capacity of water, Cv is the heat capacity of the heat-insulated vessel, t1 and t2 are the initial and final temperatures of the assay respectively after the onset of equilibrium thermal conditions, μw is the mass fraction of water in the crude oil assay.
EFFECT: reduced or eliminated effect of additional methodological errors on the accuracy of analysis of an assay, decreased labour intensity and analysis cost, increased degree of analysis automation.
