SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for improving the antioxidant capacity of an animal by increasing the level of glutathione in the blood or tissue of the specified animal, including providing the specified animal with a composition for consumption containing beta-casein, wherein the specified beta-casein contains at least 75% by weight of at least one beta-casein, which is not capable of forming beta-casomorphin-7 during enzymatic cleavage.
EFFECT: application options include the use as an oxidant to treat or prevent symptoms of cancer, inflammation, kwashiorkor (protein deficiency), seizure, autism, Down’s syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, sickle cell anemia, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, HIV, AIDS, infection, myocardial infarction, stroke, and diabetes, to prevent or reduce the effects of aging, promote tissue recovery after exercise, and promote fertility.
