SUBSTANCE: following is proposed: a method of reducing the risk of an animal becoming predisposed to developing an elevated blood glucose level by preventing or minimizing epigenetic changes in one or more genes responsible for glucose homeostasis and the insulin signaling pathway in the animal, wherein the said method includes consuming the composition to the animal or includes providing the animal with the composition for consumption, wherein the said composition comprises beta-casein containing at least 75% by weight of beta-casein variants containing proline at position 67 of the beta-casein amino acid sequence. Also the use of milk containing beta-casein, including at least 75 wt.% of variants of beta-casein containing proline at position 67 of the amino acid sequence of beta-casein, for the manufacture of a composition for reducing the risk of an animal developing a predisposition to developing an increased level of glucose in blood of the specified animal is proposed.
EFFECT: invention provides a reduction of the risk of a predisposition to the development of an increased level of glucose in the blood.
