FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is intended to improve the balance of useful intestinal microbiota in animals. Method of improving levels of beneficial intestinal microbiota in an animal is carried out by ingesting a composition containing beta-casein, or by administering to an animal a composition containing beta-casein, wherein at least 75 % by weight of beta-casein is a version of beta-casein, which contains proline in position 67 of the amino acid sequence of beta-casein. In another embodiment, a method for stimulating bacterial growth in the intestine of an animal is presented, involving ingestion or administration of said composition.
EFFECT: use of the group of inventions provides improved levels of useful intestinal microbiota and stimulation of bacterial growth in the intestine.
