SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for processing of paper webs. The paper processing unit is comprised of a rewinder (1) configured to produce paper logs and provided with an inlet (10) for supplying a paper web (W), a winding station (13) wherein logs are formed, and an output station (14) for unloading finished logs. The rewinder (1) has walls (P) defining a chamber (C) wherein logs are formed, and an air intake channel (A) in the lower part of the chamber (C). The suction channel creates suction, generating an air flow directed from the top downward into the chamber (C). The chamber (C) is comprised of two half-chambers (C1, C2), communicating with the air intake channel, so that a vertical air flow (VS, VD) directed downward is generated in each of the half-chambers. The chamber is equipped with tools for regulating said vertical air flows, providing vertically oriented equal air flow rates in the half-chambers.
EFFECT: efficient processing of residue created in processing of paper webs.
