METHOD FOR MANUFACTURE OF IGNITION PLUGS WITH IRIDIUM CONTACTS OF SIDE ELECTRODE Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC H01T21/02 H01T13/39 H01B1/22

FIELD: electric elements.

SUBSTANCE: method for manufacture of ignition plugs with cylindrical iridium contacts of the side electrode consists in the fact that radial holes are made in the annular side electrode in the area of the working end of the ignition plug, cylindrical iridium contacts of the corresponding diameter are installed therein protruding beyond the annular side electrode in the direction of the central electrode, the cylindrical iridium contacts are fixed in the radial holes by a solder and the cavities formed in the radial holes are filled thereby, prior to soldering, the inner surfaces of the radial holes and the ends of the cylindrical iridium contacts located inside the radial holes are coated with nickel powder with a degree of dispersion of no more than 50 mcm, and after soldering, the inner end of the side electrode of the plug is made conical, wherein the pressed part of the cylindrical iridium contacts is mechanically treated flush with the conical surface of the inner end of the side electrode to a depth not exceeding half of the diameter of the cylindrical iridium contacts.

EFFECT: proposed method for the manufacture of ignition plugs with cylindrical iridium contacts of the side electrode allows to form surfaces on the cylindrical iridium contacts, adjoinable with the spark-generating insulator in the discharge gap of the plug, excluding the possibility of radial exhaustion of the main material of the side electrode preceding radial exhaustion of the cylindrical iridium contacts thereof and, accordingly, increases operational life of the plugs in standby ignition mode and on ground actuation; wherein the proposed technology does not cause changes in the microstructure of the operating part of cylindrical iridium contacts, leading to a decrease in their resistance to elevated temperature and electrical erosion.
