FIELD: material processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the manufacture of monocrystalline and polycrystalline diamond, diamond powders and cubic boron nitride. A high-pressure cell (HPC) is used, containing a housing in which a heater is placed, having, for example, a cylindrical shape and locked from above and below with current-carrying washers. Inside the heater there is an insulating sleeve with insulating washers at its ends, and inside the sleeve there is at least a carbon source and a metal catalyst. A substrate with a pressed seed of a diamond crystal can also be located inside the sleeve. The HPC is placed in a high-pressure apparatus, the necessary pressure is created in it and it is heated by supplying increased power to the heater. During heating, the temperature of the catalyst metal is monitored by constantly determining the electrical resistance of the heater, establishing the fact of a sharp increase in the electrical resistance of the heater and determining the time of this sharp increase in electrical resistance, which corresponds to the melting of the catalyst metal and the phase transition of graphite to diamond. When the required temperature is reached, they stop increasing the power and maintain the HPC for a specified time. Then the power supply to the heater is stopped, the pressure is relieved and the HPC is removed from the device.
EFFECT: reliable control of the production process of superhard materials is provided by accurately determining the moment of melting of the catalyst metal and the phase transition of graphite to diamond in real time, as a result of which the process itself is simplified and its reproducibility is ensured.
