FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to modulation of immune response. The carbohydrate-modified particles encapsulating an antigen contain a biodegradable polymer material with an effective average diameter of 0.01 to 500 mcm and a carbohydrate moiety constituting an immunomodulator covalently attached to the surface of the particles, wherein the polymer material comprises polylactic acid, polyglycolic acid or a copolymer of polylactic acid and polyglycolic acid, wherein the particles induce tolerance to the antigen and the carbohydrate moiety is selected from the group consisting of heparin disaccharide II-A, chondroitin disaccharide Di-triS, antigen P1, sialyl-Lewis A, α1-3-mannobiose, α-D-N-acetylgalactosaminyl-1-3-galactose-β1-4-glucose and other moieties and combinations thereof. Also disclosed are a pharmaceutical composition for application in inducing tolerance to the antigen, a method for treatment of an immune disease or disorder in a subject, a method for production of particles, and carbohydrate-modified particles encapsulating the antigen.
