FIELD: railways.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of detecting obstacles within a railway crossing. The system includes a detection module configured to direct an electromagnetic wave to a reflector installed at a railway crossing and to receive a reflected wave corresponding with the electromagnetic wave; a control module configured to determine the state of the environment within the railway crossing based on the reflected wave; and an output module configured to output a signal of the presence/absence of an obstacle to the outside, indicating the presence of an obstacle when the control module determines that the state of the environment is abnormal. The detection module therein has an inner channel configured to propagate an electromagnetic wave; the detection module allows the electromagnetic wave to enter through the first end of the inner channel and is configured to receive the emitted wave emitted by the second end of the inner channel; and the control module is configured to determine whether the detection module has failed based on the emitted wave.

EFFECT: increased reliability of obstacle detection is achieved.
