FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method for the dealkylation of alkylaromatic compounds involves bringing alkylaromatic raw material into contact with i) the first catalyst containing a) a carrier that contains from 20 to 70 wt.% of binder based on refractory oxide and from 30 to 80 wt.% of dealuminized ZSM-5 with a crystallite size from 500 to 10,000 nm and a molar ratio of silicon dioxide to aluminum oxide (SAR) in the range from 20 to 100; and b) amount from 0.001 to 5 wt.% of one or more metals selected from a group consisting of groups 6, 9 and 10; and ii) an additional catalyst containing a) a carrier that contains from 20 to 70 wt.% of binder based on refractory oxide and from 30 to 80 wt.% of ZSM-5 with a crystallite size from 3 to 100 nm and SAR in the range from 20 to 200; and b) amount from 0.001 to 5 wt.% of one or more metals selected from a group consisting of groups 6, 9 and 10. All percentages are given per total amount of the catalyst. The ratio of the first and additional catalysts is from 1:5 to 5:1 (by weight).
EFFECT: method demonstrates beneficial isomerization of xylene in combination with high conversion of ethylbenzene, which can also be obtained without the need for preliminary selectivity using organosilicon compounds or coke precipitation.
