FIELD: optical fibers.
SUBSTANCE: method for determining the durability of an optical fiber consists in taking samples of optical fibers from one batch for testing. Some of the samples are exposed to holding in a climatic chamber at various values of elevated temperature and the dependence of the stripping force, tensile strength and attenuation coefficient of the samples on the holding time for each temperature value is determined. Another part of the samples is exposed to aging in a climatic chamber at a negative temperature and the dependence of the stripping force, tensile strength and attenuation coefficient of the samples on the exposure time at negative temperature is determined. The obtained dependences are extrapolated to values corresponding to the maximum permissible value for each of the above-mentioned parameters, the dependence of the optical fiber durability on temperature is obtained, and the durability of the optical fiber is determined using the approximating function at each temperature value.
EFFECT: improving accuracy of determining the durability of optical fiber while reducing test time.
