FIELD: geophysics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of geophysics and can be used for monitoring the position of the Earth’s magnetic poles, navigation through the magnetic field, validation of models of the Earth's magnetic field, for ballistic and topogeodesic support. To determine the position of the Earth’s magnetic pole, the measurement of the characteristics of the Earth’s magnetic field in a region with the Earth’s magnetic pole and the solution of the inverse problem of minimizing the measurement residuals and model characteristics of the magnetic field with different positions of the magnetic pole are used. To refine the estimates obtained, route surveys through the Earth’s magnetic pole zone, observation data from magnetic observatories and satellites can be used.
EFFECT: increased reliability and efficiency of monitoring the position of the Earth’s magnetic poles and navigation through the Earth’s magnetic field.
