FIELD: computer modeling.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for obtaining virtual models of products such as sheets, rods or pipes in order to detect defects on them and can be used in the metallurgical industry for quality control of rolled products. The expected result is achieved by using a method for obtaining virtual models of long-length products, including scanning the surface of the product using triangulation laser sensors (2D profilometers) at a given frequency and according to a given algorithm of movement in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and for scanning the surface of the product in the longitudinal direction, the lines of rays of one or more laser sensors are located along the direction of movement, and to scan the surface of the product in the transverse direction, the lines of the sensor rays are placed across the direction of movement, while the longitudinal and transverse scanning lines have common points, after which the obtained measurement data in the longitudinal direction is virtually superimposed on the measurement data obtained in the transverse direction with their mutual reference to common points.

EFFECT: expansion of the technical capabilities for detecting surface defects of products, as well as an increase in the reliability of the measurements made.
