In particular, a method (1200) for estimating the parameters or state of directional drilling based on a model during a downhole operation (301) is proposed, which includes: receiving measurement data obtained during a downhole operation (301) using a device for processing; performing with the help of an operational assessment processing device (302) at least one of the operational parameters for generating an operationally estimated parameter and an operational state for generating an operationally estimated state; generating with the help of an input control signal processing device for controlling an aspect of a downhole operation (301), at least partially based on at least one of the operationally estimated parameter and operationally estimated state; and the implementation of a control action based on the input control signal to control the aspect of the downhole operation (301). In this case, the operational assessment (302) is at least partially based on measurement data and at least partially based on an autonomous assessment of the parameter generated during the autonomous assessment (304). Moreover, in the operational assessment (302), the first model is used and at least one of the operationally evaluated parameters and the operationally evaluated states is evaluated during the first time period, and in the autonomous assessment (304), a second model and a data set that is larger than the measurement data set used in the operational assessment (302) are used, and in the autonomous assessment (304), the autonomously evaluated parameter is evaluated in the second time period, which is larger than the first time period.
