FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of bimetals by freeze-casting. The method for manufacturing a bimetallic welding electrode by freeze-casting includes melting of the metal, preparation of the surface of the workpiece of a welding electrode and freeze-casting of the metal melt thereon, executed in crucibles. The crucibles are placed in a common inductor (2) connected to a high-frequency generator. The inductor is made of an ellipsoidal, a ceramic (4) and graphite (10) crucibles are installed in the foci thereof. In crucible (4), the freeze-cast metal is melted, in crucible (10), the workpiece of the welding electrode is heated to the processing temperature and the surface thereof is activated with a flux (9). The processes of melting and heating with activation are executed simultaneously, making it possible to exclude cooling of the workpiece during transfer thereof from one workplace to another. The frequency of the generator is selected as calculated for the depth of current penetration into the metal of the workpiece to a depth less than the diameter or thickness thereof by 0.3 to 0.6 mm. A mixture of molten borax and boric acid in a mass ratio of 1:1 is used as a flux.
EFFECT: simplification of the instrumentation of the method and reduction of the labour intensity is provided due to the simultaneouty of executing the stages of metal melting and preparation of the surface of the electrode workpiece.
