SUBSTANCE: method can be used in metallurgy, machine building and scientific research. Method involves heating the sample and determining melting point of the charge. Prior to this operation, the melting point of the charge mixture of different composition on the surface of the steel workpiece to be hardened is pre-determined, and after crystallization of hardening layer by value and amount of dendritic grain in structure of alloy on section process temperature of melting filler charge is determined.

EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring melting point of multicomponent powder mixtures containing metal and non-metallic parts.
