SUBSTANCE: method for increasing the efficiency of a reciprocating internal combustion engine belongs to the field of power engineering. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that the toothed sectors fixed on the control shaft alternately convert rotational movements into translational movements of the spring-loaded piston rod. As a result, the processes of intake, compression, combustion and exhaust of combustion gases occur in the engine cylinder. During the working process, the rectilinear movement of the piston gear rod is converted into the rotational movement of the gear wheel connected to the load shaft by the gear stroke of the ratchet wheel. In the case of combining single-cylinder engines into a multi-cylinder engine, the automatic control system ensures the operation of the electric drives of the springs of the gear rods of the pistons in such a way that the single-cylinder engines that are part of the multi-cylinder engines work either alternately, or in groups, or simultaneously.
