FIELD: image encoding technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding images. The first partitioning information for the first target block is obtained via a bitstream. When the first partitioning information represents that the first target block is being split, the first target block is split into the first sub-blocks. The multiple partition tree (MPT) partitioning information for the second target block is obtained via a bitstream, with the second target block being one of the first sub-blocks of the first target block. The second target block is split into second sub-blocks based on the MPT partitioning information. The second sub-blocks are decoded, while the second sub-blocks are non-square blocks. The MPT partitioning information contains the MPT partitioning flag for the second target block. The MPT split flag represents whether the second target block is split into second sub-blocks, which are non-square blocks. When the value of the MPT split flag is 1, the MPT split information contains the MPT split type information and the MPT split direction information for the second target block.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of image encoding.
