FIELD: wood processing industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical processing of birch wood and concerns the sulfation of xylane. Water-soluble salts of xylan sulfates are used as blood anticoagulants instead of heparin. Xylan sulfate is obtained by sulfating xylan in a melt of a mixture of sulfamic acid and urea. Xylan is introduced into the melt of a mixture of sulfamic acid and urea at a temperature of 110-125°C and kept under stirring for 0.5 hours. The resulting reaction mass is cooled, neutralized with a 4% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and filtered. The resulting filtrate is purified by dialysis. An aqueous solution of the sodium salt of xylan sulfate is concentrated under vacuum until the water is completely removed.

EFFECT: reducing the duration, increasing the environmental safety of the sulfating process by eliminating a toxic solvent.
