FIELD: exhaust gas purification.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a NOx catalyst-absorber for an engine operating on a depleted mixture, and to an exhaust system for an engine operating on a depleted mixture. The NOx catalyst-absorber for purifying exhaust gases of a diesel engine contains: the first area containing NOx-absorbing material containing a molecular sieve catalyst, where the molecular sieve catalyst contains noble metal and the first molecular sieve, and where the first molecular sieve contains the specified noble metal; the second area containing material for reducing nitrogen dioxide including at least one inorganic oxide; and substrate having an inlet end and an outlet end; wherein the specified second area essentially does not contain platinum group metals; while the NOx catalyst-absorber does not contain an SCR catalyst containing metal selected from a group consisting of cerium (Ce), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), nickel (Ni), tungsten (W), vanadium (V), or a combination of any two or more of them.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of purifying exhaust gases of a diesel engine.
