FIELD: engineering structures evaluating methods.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to geophysical methods for evaluating engineering structures and can be used to determine areas of pipe corrosion. Noise records with a high sampling rate are recorded on the investigated area, divided into fragments, and their amplitude spectra are calculated. The amplitude spectra of all fragments are averaged. The presence of standing waves is established. When additional modes of the compression-expansion type appear, in addition to the main ones, it is concluded that there are defects in the pipe structure. The horizontal components of additional compression-expansion modes are used to determine the location of the corrosion area.
EFFECT: identification of foci of corrosion at an early stage of their formation.
