FIELD: material engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the study of the strength properties of metal materials, in particular to the determination of the force causing the destruction of surface-hardened steel products. The thickness and area of the hardened layer are determined and the functional dependence of the hardness change over the cross-section of the hardened layer is established, its integration is performed where the thickness of the hardened layer acts as an integrating value, and the force causing the destruction of surface-hardened steel products is determined, using an equation that takes into account the values of the force causing the destruction of the surface-hardened part, the area of the hardened layer, the area of the base metal, the thickness of the hardened layer, the functional dependence of the change in the hardness over the cross-section of the hardened layer, the coefficient for steel equal to 0.345, and the hardness of the base metal of the part.
EFFECT: ability to objectively assess the strength of the product, including after surface hardening, and predict their reliability and durability in operation.
