FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering, namely to tool production and technologies for the formation of highly hard and wear-resistant coatings on tool steels. The method consists in applying a titanium coating to the steel base for further modification and obtaining a wear-resistant layer. The base is made from steel sheet or strip by separating operations. A titanium coating is applied to the steel base by resistance spot welding at a voltage of 2.3-2.7 V, a compression force of 570-630 N, a current density of 63-126 A/mm2, and a pulse duration of 0.1-0.4 sec. The coated base is subjected to induction heating at an inductor current frequency of 70-90 kHz, specific electrical power consumption of 80-90 kW/kg to a temperature of 1190-1250°C and maintained for 180-300 sec, followed by uniform cooling in air to the final temperature.
EFFECT: formation on products made of tool steel, for example R6M5, of a coating of the titanium-titanium oxide system, characterized by the presence on the surface of a metal oxide diffusion layer 130-170 μm thick, hardness 1500-1800 HV, adhesive (shear) strength 90-110 MPa.
