FIELD: decoding.
SUBSTANCE: claimed group of inventions relates to an audio decoder supporting a set of different loss masking tools. Assigning one of the phase set of different loss masking tools of the audio decoder to the audio signal section subject to being decoded from the data stream, wherein said section is subject to loss, i.e., selection from the set of different loss masking tools can be executed so that the loss masking will be more pleasant if the assignment/selection is executed based on two measures: the first determined measure measures the spectral position of the spectral centroid of the audio signal spectrum and the second determined measure measures the temporal predictability of the audio signal. The assigned or selected loss masking tool can then be used to restore a section of the audio signal.
EFFECT: creation of an audio decoding principle providing a possibility for an audio decoder containing a set of different loss masking tools to achieve improved loss masking.
