FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of cellulose-containing particles suitable as rheology modifiers and agents providing fracture resistance as part of various products. The method includes the stages of: (i) contacting the particles of a plant-based material with a peroxide reagent and water; (ii) allowing the mixture from stage (i) to hydrate until the pH of the mixture reaches 4.5 or lower and (iii) homogenising the mixture from stage (ii) and extracting the cellulose-containing material. The particles of a plant-based material at stage (i) therein have an average diameter of 10 to 800 mcm and are formed by reducing the plant material by crushing or grinding in the absence of liquid.
EFFECT: reduction in the electricity consumption, reduction in the water usage, and increase in the efficiency of the method are provided.
