An optical current transformer is used to detect the three-phase current of the high voltage side of the starting/backup transformer. The occurrence of a fault is determined by the following criteria: when the current of a certain phase falls below a given threshold value or when the current of a certain phase on the high voltage side of the starting/backup transformer does not meet the condition of symmetry. In this case, after exposure, an alarm is given, and the operator is informed of the need for timely troubleshooting.

EFFECT: increase in the sensitivity and accuracy of identification in the idle mode of a malfunction in the form of a phase break of the starting/backup transformer system, which increases the reliability of the starting/backup transformer system at the power plant.
