FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring equipment and can be used to search for a route for laying an optical cable. With the help of a phase-sensitive pulse optical reflectometer, the characteristics of the backscattering of the optical fiber are measured, while the point "A" is selected and fixed on the ground on the route of the laying on one side of the cable. The above operations are carried out in the same sequence until point "B" is found on the track on the other side of the cable, for which the measured parameters coincide with the specified error with the distributions of the amplitude and phase characteristics of the signal received by the reflectometer at the frequency of exposure at the point "A", and then determine the location of the cable in the middle of the straight line segment connecting the points "A" and "B".

EFFECT: method for increasing the accuracy of finding the route of laying an optical cable, which consists in creating a directed acoustic-vibration effect on the route of laying a cable, the source of which moves longitudinally-transversely relative to the intended route, by means of control over a separate communication channel.
