SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for monitoring the condition of viewing devices on the route of a fiber-optic cable line. The substance of the invention lies in the fact that the acoustic signal probes the space in the viewing device limited by the media section, receives the acoustic signal, stores this signal in the normal state of the viewing device as an exemplary one, and subsequently compares the exemplary signal with the signals measured in the future, and according to the results of joint processing these signals are judged on quantitative indicators in changes in the conditions of propagation of an acoustic wave in the observed space, while the acoustic signal is measured in a limited space in the viewing device, using the optical fiber of a fiber-optic cable line laid in the viewing device as an acoustic sensor, and the state of the viewing device is assessed by quantitative indicators of changes in the conditions of propagation of an acoustic wave in the observed space in the viewing device.

EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of monitoring the state of the viewing device using an acoustic signal in the presence of a layer of soil or road surface above the viewing device.
