SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of pharmaceutics, namely to a method for improving glucose tolerance in subjects with type 2 diabetes that is inadequately controlled due to the treatment with metformin only. The method includes parenteral administration of desPro³⁶Exendin-4(1-39)-Lys6-NH₂ or/and its pharmaceutically acceptable salt at a daily dose of 20 mcg and parenteral administration of metformin or/and its pharmaceutically acceptable salt at a dose from 1.0 to 1.5 g/day to a subject under 50 years of age that suffers from obesity, has a glucose concentration in plasma after 2 hours after a meal of at least 14 mmol/l and HbA1c value of at least 8%, has a glucose fluctuation of at least 4 mmol/l.

EFFECT: invention provides for the improvement of glucose tolerance, reduction in HbA1c, body weight in a certain group of patients with type 2 diabetes that is inadequately controlled due to the treatment with metformin only, having HbA1c value of at least 8%, glucose concentration in plasma after 2 hours after a meal of at least 14 mmol/l and glucose fluctuation of at least 4 mmol/l.
