FIELD: metal processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for heat treatment of a section (18) of a steel billet (1), wherein the said steel billet (1) has a microstructure containing 5% martensite, expressed as a percentage of area, ferrite, bainite and residual austenite, and has a zinc-based metal coating (14) on at least a section of the upper surface (2) and/or the lower surface (4). The method involves heat treatment of a steel billet (1) by directing the thermal energy Q provided by at least one heat source (16) to at least part of the thickness (6) along the periphery of the specified steel billet (1) to form a peripheral heated section (18) and a heat-treated volume (22), and the temperature of the specified heat-treated volume (22) is 400-1500°C, and the entire volume of the steel billet (1) remains solid during the heat treatment operation, and the thickness of the metal coating (14) after heat treatment in the area covering the heat-treated volume (22), decreases by less than 30% compared to the thickness of the metal coating (14) in areas not covering the heat-treated volume (22).
EFFECT: improving the deformability of the steel billet.
