FIELD: biotechnology; agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: method for testing the genotoxicity of pesticides relatively to potatoes is proposed, based on the detection of the amount of damage to mitochondrial DNA in mitochondria isolated from tubers. The method includes obtaining a preparation of intact mitochondria from potato tubers, incubating them in the presence of respiratory substrates, pesticides, as well as incubating the control group in the absence of pesticides, isolating DNA, PCR of long fragments, using Encyclo polymerase and other standard reaction components with primer pairs that allow for amplification of fragments of mitochondrial DNA, encoding genes Cox2 and 26s of ribosomal RNA.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible, in agriculture, to select pesticides that will not have a genotoxic effect on mitochondrial DNA of potatoes and, therefore, will not negatively affect the growth and development of vegetative parts of the plant.
