FIELD: plastic production.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a device for the manufacture of carbon fiber. The method includes applying pressure to elementary thread made of polyacrylonitrile polymer to change a shape of a cross-section of elementary thread and create a set of different surfaces on elementary thread. Elementary thread is converted into graphitized carbon fiber having the specified set of different surfaces. A set of dressings is applied to the specified set of different surfaces of graphitized carbon fiber, while the specified set of dressings includes at least two different dressings.

EFFECT: possibility of a denser connection of elementary threads of carbon fiber to each other is provided, which ensures the production of denser plastic reinforced with tightly packed carbon fibers, which leads to higher rigidity of the part and can lead to the reduction in the weight of parts made using carbon fibers.
