FIELD: navigation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of navigation and is intended for improving the accuracy of navigation of an object using a multi-position radio engineering range measuring system as a navigation system. In the claimed method, the horizontal and vertical geometric factors of accuracy degradation are calculated. Implementation of a complete search of the variants of RNE placement in a predetermined area or on a given trajectory involves construction of a search matrix consisting of points - centres of areas of possible location of the RNE, use of a digital elevation model to calculate the value of elevation at the current point of installation of the RNE (the search matrix point), calculation of the values of horizontal and vertical geometric factors for each configuration of the RNE, sorted in order of increasing of the spatial geometric factor. The RNE configurations that do not provide values of horizontal and vertical geometric factors less than the maximum permissible are then excluded. Area restrictions (visibility areas, permitted areas) are converted into binary masks.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of determining the location by a radio engineering range measuring method due to the optimisation of placement of reference navigation equipment (RNE) in a predetermined area of operation of the navigation object.
