A method for operating a driver assistance system is proposed, in particular a system for regulating a vehicle speed, preferably a system for regulating speed, controlled by a satellite system for determining a vehicle location, preferably a truck with an internal combustion engine that is equipped with an adjustable valve drive, in particular, with a certain amount of cam systems with an adjustable position for changing a period of opening inlet and/or outlet valves. The method includes determining at least one operational characteristic of a road on the upcoming route, while this operational characteristic of the road influences the engine operation, providing a recommendation on movement depending on the operational characteristic of the road on the upcoming route, and adjusting the adjustable valve drive depending on the provided recommendation on movement.

EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of operation of the driver assistance system.
