FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrical engineering. According to the method, the current in the power transmission line is monitored and the maximum distance from the protective switching device installed at the beginning of the line to the most distant short-circuit point is determined, in which its sensitivity to short circuits is ensured. At this or somewhat less distance, a protective switching device with sensitivity to short circuits is installed along the entire subsequent length of the power line. If a short circuit occurs behind the installation point of the protective switching device, the short-circuit current is disconnected. Based on the totality of the facts of the flow or absence of short-circuit current through the protective switching device and the disappearance of voltage behind the installation point of the protective switching device, it is concluded that the protective switching device has been disconnected due to short-circuit current or for another reason, and a message is sent to the network manager.
EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of protecting the power transmission line from a remote short circuit in the section of the power transmission line behind the installation point of the protective switching device.
