SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrical engineering, in particular to methods of expanding the zone of sensitivity of a protective switching device to short-circuit currents. The distance along the length of the power transmission line from the protective switching device to the most distant short-circuit point is determined. The most distant short-circuit point ensures the sensitivity of this protective switching device to short circuits. A sensor is installed in the power line at this or somewhat less distance. The sensor controls the current in the line so that the sensitivity of the installed sensor to short-circuit currents is ensured throughout the entire subsequent length of the power transmission line, when a short-circuit current appears in the line behind the sensor installation point, information about this is transmitted via the communication channel to the actuator with the help of which the protective switching device is disconnected.

EFFECT: expansion of the zone of sensitivity of the protective switching device to short-circuit currents.
