SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to an aerosol generating device, a nonvolatile machine-readable medium, a mouthpiece for an aerosol generating device, a set of mouthpieces, a system for generating an aerosol and a method for controlling the operating parameter of an aerosol generating device. The aerosol generating device comprises a detection element for detecting the type of mouthpiece disposed in the aerosol generating device, a controller for controlling the operation parameter of the aerosol generating device, and a heating element configured to heat the aerosol forming substrate of the aerosol generating article when the article generating an aerosol is housed in an aerosol generating device. The controller is further configured to receive an input signal indicating the type of mouthpiece detected by the detection element, and is configured to control an operation parameter of the aerosol generating device based on the detected mouthpiece type located in the aerosol generating device. An operating parameter of the aerosol generating device includes the temperature profile of the heating element during heating.
