SUBSTANCE: invention constitutes a method for estimating the condition by the weighing method in order to determine the beginning of a reduction in the live weight of herd horses in the winter grazing period in November and January, provides a possibility of monitoring the dynamics of maintenance or reduction in the live weight of herd horses in the most difficult winter time. This is necessary for organising timely feeding at the beginning of more significant losses in the live weight in animals, wherein wasting can be prevented in herd horses. It is especially important to identify such moments in young animals.

EFFECT: method allows for a reduction in the feed consumption due to the reduction in the feeding period, since herd horses restore the condition quickly at small losses of live weight up to 5-6%; the obtained data can be used to effectively organise an improved technology for managing herd horses in the winter grazing period in order to increase the actual output of foals and the safety of adult horse stock in horse farming enterprises breeding herd horses.
