FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention constitutes a method for evaluating and selecting herd horses with valuable indicators of breeding value, namely, high condition resistance to severe wintering conditions. In herd horse breeding, in the course of breeding work, it is important to identify animals capable of withstanding difficult wintering conditions. The use of the method for evaluating the condition resistance of herd horses allows for objective evaluation and identification of animals exhibiting high adaptive properties of the organism to severe conditions during year-round management on pastures, and prevents selective breeding of animals with weak adaptive qualities. Weighing conducted during certain months, followed by calculating the value of loss of live weight relative to the initial weight, therein allows for objective comparative assessment of the level of condition resistance, selecting horses with the highest breeding value indicators.
EFFECT: selection of horses capable of withstanding severe wintering conditions.
