The invention is a method for selecting a universal breed of Kazakh horses of the steppe type for selection, relates to the field of agriculture, in particular to the selection of horses of local breeds. The method involves assessing animals by type and origin, by live weight and body measurements - height at the withers, oblique body length, chest girth, metacarpal girth, as well as conformation and milkiness of mares, and additionally at the age of 2.5 years, a preliminary assessment of horses is carried out , selecting fillies with a live weight of at least 330 kg, and colts of at least 360 kg with measurements - height at the withers, oblique body length, chest circumference, metacarpal circumference of at least 138.0:138.0:158.0:16.5 cm, respectively, for fillies and 140.0:141.0:161.0:17.0 cm, respectively, for colts. Finally, first lactation mares with a live weight of at least 410 kg are selected for selection with body measurements - height at the withers, oblique body length, chest circumference, metacarpal circumference of at least 137.0:142.0:168.0:18.0 cm, respectively with a cup-shaped udder, with conical teats pointing vertically downwards and a length of 3.0 to 5.5 cm, with a daily milk yield in the third month of lactation of at least 6.00 kg, and stallions with a live weight of at least 420 kg with body measurements of at least 141.0:146.0:176.0:18.5 cm, respectively.

EFFECT: invention will provide an increase in the number of breeding horses, including for the formation of herds of high-milk mares.
